හිටපු ආරක්ෂක ලේකම් හේමසිරි ප්‍රනාන්දුට සහ හිටපු පොලිස්පතිට පාස්කු ප්‍රහාර නඩුවෙන් මරණ දඬුවම

2019 වසරේ එල්ල වූ පාස්කු ඉරිදා ත්‍රස්ත ප්‍රහාරය වළක්වා ගැනීමට පියවර නොගැනීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් නඩු විභාග කළ කොළඹ ස්ථිර ත්‍රිපුද්ගල මහාධිකරණය විසින් හිටපු ආරක්ෂක ලේකම් හේමසිරි ප්‍රනාන්දු මහතාට මරණ දඬුවම නියම කර තිබේ.

මෙම නඩුවටම අදාළව හිටපු පොලිස්පති පූජිත් ජයසුන්දර මහතාට ද මරණීය දණ්ඩනය හිමි විය.

තීන්දුව: ඒ අනුව, කොළඹ ස්ථිර ත්‍රිපුද්ගල මහාධිකරණයේ බහුතර විනිසුරු මඩුල්ලක තීරණයට අනුව මෙම නඩු තීන්දුව ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කරමින් විත්තිකරුවන්ට මරණ දඬුවම නියම කළේය.

Former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando Sentenced to Death Over Easter Sunday Attacks

The Colombo Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar has sentenced former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando to death for failing to prevent the tragic Easter Sunday terror attacks in 2019.

Along with him, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara was also handed the death penalty in connection with the same case.

Charges: The defendants were found guilty of criminal negligence, dereliction of official duty, and abetment of murder by failing to act on prior intelligence warnings and security alerts regarding the impending attacks.
Legal Background: Although a 3-member High Court bench had previously acquitted both defendants in 2022, the Supreme Court later ruled that the acquittal was contrary to law following an appeal filed by the Attorney General, ordering a retrial.
The Verdict: Following the retrial, the Colombo Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar delivered the majority verdict convicting the accused and sentencing them to death.
