පසුගිය ජූලි 07 සහ 15 අතර කාලය තුළ කොළඹ කොටුව දුම්රියපොළ ඉදිරිපිටදී මෙම සත්යග්රහය සංවිධානය කර තිබුණේ සුරේෂ් සලේ මහතාගේ අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීමට විරෝධය පළ කරමිනි. මෙම සිද්ධිය සම්බන්ධයෙන් අපරාධ පරීක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව (CID) විසින් අධිකරණයට ප්රගති වාර්තාවක් ඉදිරිපත් කරමින් පෙන්වා දී තිබුණේ, අදාළ පිරිස මාධ්ය සාකච්ඡා පවත්වමින් සහ විරෝධතා අතරතුර ප්රකාශ නිකුත් කරමින් යුක්තිය පසිඳලීමේ ක්රියාදාමය කෙරෙහි මහජන අප්රසාදය හා සැකය ඇති කිරීමට උත්සාහ කර ඇති බවයි.
විශේෂයෙන්ම, ආරක්ෂක ලේකම්වරයාගේ අනුමැතිය යටතේ CID භාරයේ රඳවා සිටි සැකකාර සුරේෂ් සලේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් අදහස් දක්වමින්, ඔවුන් අපරාධ පරීක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව ‘වධකාගාරයක්’ ලෙස හුවා දැක්වීමට කටයුතු කර ඇති බවත්, එම අවස්ථාවේ සැකකරු කොළඹ ජාතික රෝහලේ විශේෂඥ වෛද්යවරුන්ගේ අධීක්ෂණය යටතේ ප්රතිකාර ලබමින් සිටියදී මහජනතාව නොමඟ යවන ප්රකාශ සිදු කර ඇති බවත් පොලිස් පරීක්ෂකවරයා අධිකරණයට දන්වා සිටියේය.

Order to File Cases in the Court of Appeal Against 6 Individuals, Including Gammanpila and Dilith, for Contempt of Court
The Colombo Fort Magistrate, Pasan Amarasinghe, has ordered that legal action be instituted in the Court of Appeal against six political activists, including former ministers and Members of Parliament, on charges of making statements that criticized the judicial process during protests and sat-in demonstrations. These protests were held against the arrest and detention of retired Major General Suresh Saley, the former head of the State Intelligence Service, who is currently being questioned in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks.
Background of the Case and CID Investigations
The sat-in protest was organized opposite the Colombo Fort Railway Station between July 7 and 15, demanding the release of Suresh Saley. Presenting a progress report to the court regarding the incident, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) pointed out that the individuals concerned had attempted to create public disrepute and suspicion regarding the administration of justice by holding press conferences and making statements during the protests.
Specifically, the CID inspector informed the court that while the suspect Suresh Saley was being held under CID custody with the approval of the Ministry of Defense, these individuals had portrayed the CID as a “torture chamber” through their media briefings. Furthermore, they had made statements misleading the public at a time when the suspect was receiving treatment under the supervision of specialist doctors at the National Hospital of Colombo.
Video Footage Considered as Evidence
With the court’s permission, unedited original video footage containing the statements made by the individuals was obtained from ten major media outlets and examined. The Magistrate noted that a detailed inspection of these footages prima facie revealed that the suspects had publicly expressed views criticizing the judiciary and the legal system.

Considering the request made by the Criminal Investigation Department and all the facts and primary evidence presented, the Magistrate issued this directive stating that it is prima facie evident that the individuals had made statements amounting to contempt of court.
