ශ්රී ලංකාවේ වර්තමාන දේශපාලන යථාර්ථය දෙස බලන විට, ඡන්දදායකයා සහ ජන නියෝජිතයා අතර සම්බන්ධය සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම උඩුයටිකුරු වී ඇති බව පෙනේ. අද දේශපාලනය යනු මහජන සේවයක් නොව, මෙරට ප්රබලම සහ ලාභදායී “මහා ව්යාපාරය” වී හමාරය. රටේ ආර්ථිකය කඩා වැටී, සාමාන්ය ජනතාව දිනෙන් දින අන්ත අසරණ වෙද්දී, දේශපාලන ව්යාපාරිකයෝ පරපුරෙන් පරපුරට ධන කුවේරයන් බවට පත්වෙති. එහෙත්, මේ නිරුවත් සත්යය දෑස් ඉදිරිපිටම දිස්වද්දීත්, තමන්ව මංකොල්ලකන ඒ පාලකයින්ටම තවදුරටත් වැඳුම් පිදුම් කිරීමට මෙරට ජනතාව පෙළඹී සිටීම අතිශය ඛේදනීය ඓතිහාසික උත්ප්රාසයකි.
මෙම අන්ධ දේශපාලන වන්දනාව අත්හරින තුරු, ශ්රී ලංකාවේ ජනතාව නිදහස් පුරවැසියන් ලෙස නොව සදාකාලික වහලුන් ලෙස ජීවත් වීමට නියමිතය. එයට හේතු මෙන්න:
1. සේවකයාට වඳින “වැටුප් ගෙවන” මෝඩයා
ප්රජාතන්ත්රවාදී රාමුවක් තුළ දේශපාලනඥයා යනු ජනතාවගේ බදු මුදලින් නඩත්තු වන, ජනතාවට සේවය කිරීමට පත් කළ පඩි ලබන සේවකයෙකි. නමුත් දේශපාලන වන්දනාව තුළ සිදුවන්නේ ඊට හාත්පසින්ම වෙනස් වූවකි. තමා වැටුප් ගෙවන, තම ධනයෙන් යැපෙන සේවකයා ඉදිරියේ ජනතාව දණගැසීම යනු තමන්ටම අවමන් කරගැනීමකි. තමන්ගේ අයිතිවාසිකම් වෙනුවෙන් වැඩ කළ යුතු සේවකයා “ස්වාමියා” කරගන්නා තාක්, ජනතාව යනු එම සේවකයාගේ අණටකීකරු වන වැඩවසම් වහලුන් පිරිසක් පමණි.
2. සූරාකෑමටම අත්පොළොසන් දීම
දේශපාලනය ව්යාපාරයක් වූ පසු එහි පරමාර්ථය වන්නේ රට සංවර්ධනය කිරීම නොව, තමන්ගේ ව්යාපාරය (ධනය) තව තවත් වර්ධනය කර ගැනීමයි. බදු බරින් ජනතාව මිරිකමින්, රටේ සම්පත් කොල්ලකමින් කරන මෙම ව්යාපාරයට ජනතාව අන්ධ ලෙස වන්දිභට්ටකම් කරන්නේ නම්, එයින් කියැවෙන්නේ තමාවම සූරාකෑමට ලක්කිරීමට ජනතාව ස්වේච්ඡාවෙන් කැමැත්ත පළ කරන බවයි. තමාගේ මර උගුල තමන් විසින්ම සකස් කරගනිමින්, එය සාදා දුන් පුද්ගලයාටම ස්තූති කරන වහල් මානසිකත්වයෙන් මිදෙන තුරු රටකට ගැලවීමක් නැත.
3. ප්රශ්න කිරීමේ අයිතිය අහිමි කරගැනීම
දෙවිවරුන්ට වැරදි වැටෙන්නේ නැත; ඔවුන්ට කළ යුත්තේ වැඳීම පමණි. එහෙත් දේශපාලකයින් යනු මිනිසුන්ය; ඔවුන්ගෙන් වැරදි සිදුවිය හැකිය. දේශපාලනඥයන් දෙවිවරුන් මෙන් දකින විට, ඔවුන් කරන වැරදි, දූෂණ සහ වංචා විවේචනය කිරීමට ජනතාව බිය වෙති. “අපේ හාමුදුරුවෝ” හෝ “අපේ නායකතුමා” වැරදි කළත් එය සාධාරණීකරණය කිරීමට තරම් ජනතාව අන්ධ වන්නේ මේ වන්දනාමාන සංස්කෘතිය නිසාය. වගවීමක් හෝ විනිවිදභාවයක් නැති තැනක පවතින්නේ පාලකයින්ගේ අණට කීකරු වන යටත් වැසියන් (Subjects) මිස, රටේ පාලනය තීරණය කරන නිදහස් පුරවැසියන් (Citizens) නොවේ.
නිගමනය: අපි වහල්භාවයෙන් මිදී පුරවැසියන් වන්නේ කෙසේද?
අපේ රටේ ජනයා තවදුරටත් දේශපාලන වේදිකාවල වැටෙන කඩමලු පසුපස හඹා යමින්, දේශපාලකයින්ගේ පාද නಮස්කාර කරමින් සිටින තාක් කල්, ඔවුන්ට සිදුවන්නේ රටේ සැබෑ ස්වාමිපුරුෂයන් වීමට නොව, දේශපාලන ව්යාපාරිකයන්ගේ අතකොළු සහ සදාකාලික වහලුන් වීමටය.
මේ අවාසනාවන්ත තත්ත්වය වෙනස් විය යුතුය. දේශපාලනඥයින් යනු රට පාලනය කරන දෙවිවරුන් නොව, මහජනතාවට වගකිව යුතු සේවකයින් පමණක් යැයි වටහා ගන්නා දවසක් උදා වන තුරු, අපට නිදහස් රටක අභිමානයෙන් ජීවත් වීමට නොහැකි වනු ඇත. සැබෑ වෙනස ඇත්තේ දේශපාලන වේදිකාවලට වැඳීම නැවැත්වූ දිනක, ඔවුන්ගෙන් රටේ ගිණුම ඉල්ලා සිටීමට පුරවැසි බලය මතුවන මොහොතකය!
As long as we do not break free from political worship, we in this country remain eternal slaves!
Looking at the current political reality of Sri Lanka, it appears that the relationship between the voter and the people’s representative has been completely turned upside down. Today, politics is no longer a public service, but has become the most powerful and lucrative “mega-business” in the country. While the national economy has collapsed and ordinary citizens are becoming increasingly helpless day by day, political business tycoons grow into multi-millionaires generation after generation. Yet, even when this naked truth unfolds right before our eyes, it is a deeply tragic historical irony that the people of this country continue to bow down and worship the very rulers who plunder them.
Until this blind political worship is abandoned, the people of Sri Lanka are destined to live not as free citizens, but as eternal slaves. Here are the reasons why:
1. The “Wage-Paying” Fool Who Bows to the Servant
Within a democratic framework, a politician is a paid servant maintained by the people’s tax money and appointed to serve the people. However, what happens in political worship is the exact opposite. For the people to kneel before the servant whom they pay wages to and who depends on their wealth is an insult to themselves. As long as the people make a “master” out of the servant who ought to work for their rights, the people remain merely a group of feudal slaves obedient to that servant’s command.
2. Applauding Exploitation
Once politics becomes a business, its objective is not to develop the country, but to further expand one’s own business (wealth). If the people blindly shower sycophancy on this business conducted by crushing citizens under tax burdens and plundering national resources, it implies that the people willingly consent to being exploited themselves. There is no salvation for a country until we break free from the slave mentality of setting our own death trap and thanking the very person who built it.
3. Forfeiting the Right to Question
Gods do not make mistakes; what needs to be done for them is merely to worship. But politicians are human beings; mistakes can happen through them. When politicians are viewed like gods, people become afraid to criticize their wrongs, corruption, and fraud. The culture of worship is why people are blinded to the point of justifying wrongs even when “our priest” or “our leader” commits them. In a place devoid of accountability or transparency, what exists are submissive subjects obedient to the rulers’ commands, not free citizens who determine the governance of the country.
Conclusion: How Do We Break Free from Slavery to Become Citizens?
As long as the people of our country continue to chase after rags thrown on political stages and worship at the feet of politicians, they will not become the true masters of the country, but rather puppets and eternal slaves of political businessmen.
This unfortunate situation must change. Until the day dawns when we realize that politicians are not gods who rule the country, but merely servants accountable to the public, we will not be able to live with the pride of a free country. True change lies in the moment when we stop bowing to political stages and the citizen power arises to demand the country’s ledger from them!
